How we recycle BRITA cartridges:
BRITA’s Recycling Department shreds the cartridges and the filtering material is separated from the plastic case.
The plastic material is pre-cleaned and then grinded. The resulting plastic granulate is supplied to the plastics industry for renewed processing for various purposes.
Activated carbon and ion exchangers – the contents of the filtering cartridge – are separated at BRITA by a separating and regenerating line.
The activated carbon is returned to the manufacturer where it is reactivated in special installations or reused for waste water treatment.
The ion exchangers remain at BRITA where they are subjected to a 100 per cent regeneration processes during which the ion exchangers regain the full capacity in a series of treatment processing stages. Thermal after-treatment ensures once again the re-establishment of hygienic purity. At the end of this process, the ion exchanger resin fulfils all the quality demands that are expected in functional and hygienic terms of new, freshly produced ion exchangers. This is guaranteed by stringent external and internal examinations. The regenerated ion exchangers are then reused for the production of household water filters.
BRITA and Seal Rescue Ireland:
As part of BRITA’s commitment to fighting against the damage that single use plastic does to the planet, we’ve teamed up with Seal Rescue Ireland (Charity No. 20108519), as one of their major sponsors. Based in Courtown, Co. Wexford, Seal Rescue Ireland rehabilitate seals that have been found in distress around the coast of Ireland and release them back to the open waters once they have recovered.
Along with sponsoring one of their pools and kennels, we’ve also sponsored a number of seals including Noodles, Sriracha, Lotus, Pistachio and Snapdragon (pictured below). If you want to find out more about the great work they do, or directions to the centre simple click this link here.
You too can get involved and become a “Seal Rescuer” for the day… One of the most unique and rewarding experiences you’ll come across! Just book in here through Air BnB: View on Airbnb
BRITA and Reforest Nation:
Building on our partnership with Seal Rescue Ireland, we decided to increase our contribution in fighting the effects of plastic pollution and climate change. As experts in water filtration, we looked at earth’s natural filters – trees – and found the perfect organisation in Reforest Nation. Gareth and the team at Reforest Nation have been planting native trees around the island of Ireland are trying to both slow the effects of climate change and improve our natural environment. Starting with a donation to plant 1,000 trees, we’re looking forward to working with Reforest Nation and eventually seeing more greenery around the Emerald Isle!
Find out how you too can help out in re-populating our native trees here.
